Getting started
Vello turns your videos into shoppable content on your storefront. Three steps to go live:
Enable the app embed
Turn Vello on in your theme so the video player can load on your storefront.
Add a video
Upload a file or import a reel from Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube.
Create a widget
Choose a layout, attach your videos, and place the widget block on a page.
Enabling the app embed
Go to Online Store → Themes → Customize → App embeds, then toggle on “Vello – Shoppable Videos”. The app embed loads the player once across your whole storefront, so you only need to do this once. The Dashboard shows a live “App embed enabled” status when it detects the embed on your published theme. Use the “Open theme editor” shortcut on the Dashboard to jump straight there.
Adding videos
You can bring in videos two ways:
Upload from your device
Video Library → Upload video. Shopify transcodes uploads in the background — this usually takes 1–5 minutes, and the status updates automatically on the video list.
Import from social
Video Library → Import from social. Paste a public Instagram Reel, TikTok, or YouTube URL.
Creating and placing widgets
A widget controls how your videos appear on the storefront. Create one under Widgets → Create widget: pick a style, choose which page it appears on, attach videos, and adjust its design. After saving, copy the Widget ID and add a Vello block to that page in the theme editor — the block only needs the Widget ID; the layout is controlled here in the app, not in the theme editor.
Widget styles
Choose the style that fits the page:
Carousel
A scrollable row of video tiles. Great for homepages and collection pages.
Stories
Tappable circles, like Instagram stories. Compact and eye-catching.
Grid
A tidy grid of thumbnails for a gallery feel.
Floating
A bubble that follows the shopper as they scroll.
Product embed
A carousel filtered to the products tagged on each video — ideal for product pages.
Fullscreen / TikTok feed
Immersive, vertical, swipeable playback.
Tagging products
Open a video’s detail page and choose “Tag products”, then search for the products to link. On the storefront, shoppers see a product card on the video and can add the item to cart without leaving the player. You can control how tags appear — card, dot, pill, thumbnail, or price chip — and whether they’re always visible or only at each product’s moment, in the widget’s Design & appearance settings.
Customizing appearance
Each widget’s Design & appearance panel controls layout width (full page width by default, or a fixed maximum), colors, the product-tag style, and playback options like autoplay and mute. Changes apply to that widget wherever it’s placed.
Analytics
The Dashboard and Analytics pages show views, watch time, add-to-carts, and revenue attributed to your videos. Metrics update as shoppers interact with your widgets. Use “Top videos by revenue” to see what’s converting.
Plans and usage limits
Each plan includes a monthly video-view allowance (shown on the Billing page). If a store reaches its limit, the storefront widget stops serving new videos until you upgrade or the monthly quota resets on the 1st. Upgrading takes effect immediately. Development stores are billed as test charges so you can trial paid plans without real charges.
Troubleshooting
Common fixes:
Videos aren’t showing on the storefront
Confirm the app embed is enabled, the widget is Published, and the Widget ID in the theme block matches the widget.
A video is stuck “Processing”
Transcoding takes a few minutes. If it fails, use Retry on the video. Reopen the app from Shopify admin if you see an auth prompt.
Videos stopped serving
Check the Billing page — you may have reached your monthly view limit. Upgrade to resume immediately.
